How to Apply for Low-Income Housing in Indianapolis?

My husband and I need to find out how to apply for low-income housing in the southwest Indianapolis area. We have a 3 year old son. My husband lost his job in May and is searching for work right now. We live with my mother right now, and we receive food stamps, but really need to get our own apartment as soon as possible. Does anyone know how we can qualify for housing assistance?
