How does an e-ticket work?

I bought a plane ticket for my son to come down for the summer. I tried to print out the info the travel agent e-mailed me, yet I didn't see anything that looked like a plane ticket and his name was spelled wrong. I called the travel agent and haven't heard back yet and am waiting for the airline to return my call. How do I print out the ticket. It's on Southwest, he leaves on July 2.
